Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic counselling works with the present and the past in tandem. Some of the time we will be talking about the present problems and sometimes we will try to link that to past relationships or events which are where the cause usually lies. This enables is to get to the root of the problems and gain long-term resolution.

Sessions are at the same time once per week and last for 50 minutes each. The work aims at addressing the whole person and involves making links between the present situation and what happened in the past. Our present patterns (behaviours, attitudes, beliefs, etc.) were initially laid down in childhood and can be stubbornly difficult to change. Psychodynamic counselling is a bit like archaeology, digging down through the layers to the origins of the problems and dealing with it by bringing it to consciousness and by working it through in current relationships.
